Luma AI offers an intuitive and user-friendly interface that guides the user through the process of capturing 3D images. An AR overlay guides you to circle slowly around an object at three different heights, making the process easy to understand and follow. The app notifies when it has collected enough images, at which point a Finish button will appear. Moreover, the app will automatically stop the capture when an ideal amount of photos have been collected, thus making the entire process manageable from your iPhone.

After capturing the images, processing happens on Luma Labs’ servers. In about an hour, the finished NeRF will be available in the app in several different forms. You can view a generated video showing a fly-by of the object in its natural environment or interactively spin the view by dragging a finger or a mouse across the image. Most impressively, you can also pivot the 3D object on any axis and zoom in to see it more closely. The sharpness of the final image depends on how many images were collected and how slow and stable you were during the capture process.
